Satsuma Kiriko was founded in 1846 by Shimadzu Narioki, the 10th lord of the Satsuma Domain, and began manufacturing pharmaceuticals, but due to the need for glassware that could withstand the strong acid of chemicals, Satsuma Kiriko invited The Glass Master Shimoto Kamejiro from Edo to start manufacturing it.
In 1851, when Shimadzu Nariyoshi became the 11th lord of the Satsuma Domain, the purpose of glass production changed to create colored cut children, and the color of "red glass" was successfully produced, and the name of Satsuma Beadro was increased. After that, the glass kiln was transferred to the Seiseikan of the carp, and the production of glass was great along with the technique called cutko, but it was reduced by the sudden death of Saiho, and the glass factory was also returned to ash 燼 in the 1863 British War.
About 120 years later, in 1985, Satsuma Kiriko began to be reprinted again in the land of the carp associated with Saigo, and now , Satsuma-by-Doro Craft Co., Ltd. in Satsuma-cho, Satsuma-gun, produces a number of masterpieces from that time and Satsuma Kiriko to match the modern lifestyle.
Notes on handling
Satsuma Kiriko is not heat-resistant glass. Please note that if you pour hot water, it will crack.
Crystal glass is soft glass. Do not apply glass to each other.
Soak the dishwashing detergent in lukewarm water and wash it carefully with a sponge or cloth. Wash the cut surface with a soft brush from time to time.
Blowing glass, cutting and polishing are all done by hand by craftsmen, so the weight and thickness of the work are different one by one.
Rarely, there is a mixed substance such as foam in the glass, but there is no quality problem.
Do not use dishwashers, microwave ovens, etc.
